Closing Time

Well technology class is coming to a close. I have learn SO much in this class. I feel the things that I have learned in this class are really helping to make me a more effective teacher. Skip and Ross have been wonderful teacher, I could not have asked for anything more. I appreciate the time and thought that they have put into this class. I will continue this blog throughout my CADRE experience but for now it is closing time!
Closing time - time for you to go out, go out into the world.
Closing time - turn the lights up over every boy and every girl.
Closing time - one last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey or beer.
Closing time - you don't have to go home but you can't stay here.

Students with Disabilities and Computer Technology

http://www.newhorizons.org/strategies/technology/burgstahler.htm

Summary-This article discusses ways that students with disabilities can use technology in the classrooms. It goes into detail about what technologies to use and why. Also it describes what not to use and why.

Reflect /analysis- This article was great for expanding my learning. We always talk about how to use technology in the classroom, however, personally I don't hear much about students with disabilities and technology. The articles talk of students with mobility impairments. In my own classroom if I have students with this type of disability, I will follow the suggestions that the author gives such as providing flexible equipment such as computer desks that wheel chairs can fit under, making sure that a person in a wheelchair can reach all of the computer equipment such as keyboards, and power strips.
For students who are blind I could use a braille keyboard. I was unaware that braille keyboards existed. There are speech out puts for the computer screen also, therefore the students can hear what is being show on a computer screen. For students with low vision in the classroom I will make the standard keyboard and screen letters much larger.
Students with hearing or speech difficulties they can use the computer to become active in discusses with the class by having their typing become synthesized into computer generated speech.
Students with learning disabilities can benefit form technology by getting individualized help and instruction on the computer. These students often need a little more practice than the non disabled student. The computer can be that 1 on 1 attention that they need.
Overall, I have learned may techniques I can use in my classroom if and when I encounter a student with a disability.

Online Bullies pull schools into fray

http://www.ndtv.com/article/sci-tech/online-bullies-pull-schools-into-the-fray-34283

Summary:This article was about students being bullied online and in text messages. The parents of these students were finding it hard to find support for consequences of the students who are doing the bulling. Parents began looking to schools for justice, protection, and revenge. However, some schools claim they cannot do much about things that happen outside of the classroom. Teachers and administrators are being put into the role of prosecutors and judges. This article basically talks about when bulling takes place and how some schools react to this new type of bulling.

Analyze/reflect: After reading this article it made me think of how I would feel if I was being bullied in 6th grade. I would look to my parents and school. This article was talking about the conflict that administrators have when faced with this problem. The article said that one principal had parents thank them for being involved and other parents state that it didn't happen in school so stay out of their life. As a teacher I feel that I am their for my students. I will be there to help them with problems that they have inside of school and outside of school, academically and personally. Therefore personally, I will urge parents and teacher to come to me with any type of bulling that they may come across. Just by informing the students of this type of bulling it will hopefully make them feel comfortable with asking me questions about the subject or telling me if any of theses bulling behaviors are taking place.

Time Flies

I can't believe how fast these classes are going. We are already half way finished with class. I am enjoying doing my literature review, I am really learning a lot from reading the studies. I only wish that I had a little more time with it.
In technology class I am just plugging away with getting my assignments completed. My problem is that I start a project then while doing the project I get an idea for another project then I start that and go back and forth. I know it's not the best way to get things done, but when my I am being creative I like to get my ideas out. Maybe I should just start sketching out my projects on hard copy before I make them electronically.

Well class is started. Gotta go!

Quicky

So today wasn't a bad day. I was extremely tired this morning, but what's new. I have my literature group tomorrow, I'm looking forward to discussing the book my group members. We make an imovie tomorrow, which should be fun . The practice one we made today I had a good time putting it together and editing it. I'm going to read some of my research information tonight so I'm keeping this short. TTYL

Self -Motivation

I'm glad I took off work tonight because after today, I'm going to need a nice glass of Cabernet... while I do my research, after I read more of Dreamkeepers, but before I think about what I am going to do for my choice project, during the time when I am working on figuring out this darn Prezi, while thinking that I still have to do my Voicethread for a grade. Still thinking did I forget anything... Oh! I forgot it's all in Proposition 1 Teachers are committed to students and their learning. I care deeply about my students learning which is why I am excited, yet a little overwhelmed with my assignments. I want the best out of myself so that I can give my students knowledge from the best of my abilities. I am commited to learning what I do not know and excel it. Sorry I don't know how this became a self motivation blog. I need to change the title. I guess, I need to self motivate right now because now is the time to start producing. A thought is useless unless it can told.

On a different note every since this morning I have been determined to make those propositions into a song or poem. I keep writing down little phrases here and there just whenever I though of a line. So I have some on a receipt in my car, a few scribbles in my notebook, etc. A goal of mine is write one.

Wow it is a beautiful day outside perfect.

Well I better get to Xing some of those things off my list!

Blogging is Fun

I came to the realization today that instead of looking at blogging as a required assignment for me to do, I was going to look at it as a time for me to reflect on not just my technology class or CADRE, but my overall thoughts and feelings through my whole experience. So pardon me if you ever read any of my postings and they seem personal. They probably are but CADRE is my family now and I am comfortable around my family. So welcome to the random thoughts of Jeona!

Well today we received our computers that was exciting to me. I always wanted a laptop. I always thought if I had a laptop life would be much easier. I could work on school work anywhere in the car, eating, in the bed where ever. I always felt limited to one designated spot in my house where my creativity sometimes felt cramp in the space we call our "office". Today I was able to watch my daughter while she played in the backyard, and check my emails. Wow! Yeah, I love the small things in life. So I am enjoying this new found freedom. Thanks CADRE.

So How is CADRE going so far you ask? Feel free everyone asks me that. It's going as expected. I knew from the beginning that we were going to have a lot to do in a small amount of time. I am feeling the crunch a little though. Just because I'm a deep thinker. I like to think out everything very clearly in my head before I make any actions. Now I have a lot of thought and ideas in my head that I think I just need to start acting on. Going to the library tomorrow will help iron out some of the things for the first class. Now what to do my choice project. So many things...so many decisions. Hey at least I enjoy thinking about my profession. I guess I have to let it marinate for some time. It will come to me.

I am also excited about a Facebook group for CADRE 2010-2011. I think that was great of Anna to volunteer to do that! Applause! It will be nice to have that community of people right at my fingertips.
Well that's all for now,TTYL.

Response to Survey

Summary: This article discussed how students helped in the classroom with learning technology. Schools are involving the students in the planning and implementation of the technology plans. Many student that are involved in theses groups find it very engaging and helpful to be apart of helping teachers with technology.

Analysis/Reflect: This is great what these schools are doing. The more students are involved with planning the more intrinsically motivated they will be with their learning. It is very important in my mind that all students experience as much technology that I can expose them to. I feel if I don't expose them who will. Of course they might get exposed to different technology sources from other people, but if I do my part then I know it will be done. Teachers are only going to teach subjects that are familiar to them. So the more that I know the more I will feel comfortable to teach in my lessons. The people in the survey that felt no use for technology such as networking sites may need more lessons in technology themselves. By exposing the students to different technology avenues it is exposing them to technology vices that they may not have explored on their own. It also is great for leading them into careers that may use technology. I will defiantly let my students live and learn technology with me.

My first day of teaching is quickly approaching. I got a chance to look at my classroom that I will be teaching in. Upon leaving the empty classroom, I began to feel nervous. How will I decorate? I wonder what type of students I will have? Who would I be working with? I hope I fit well with this community. All these thoughts ran rapid through my head. The secretary that was in the school that day told me that I will be a great teacher, and to stay out of this building and go enjoy my summer. This brought a smile to my face and I felt much better.
